Web Design Testing Grounds was created for the sole purpose of testing different Web design techniques. Some of the techniques will not work in every Web browser, but I will do my best to make it work for most of them. They may also look different from platform to platform (Windows to Macintosh) and browser to browser (Internet Explorer to Netscape). The techniques I will be primarily focusing on are JavaScript, PHP, CSS, and HTML. This information page will be used to inform you of the changes that I have made to Web Design Testing Grounds. For example, when I add a new PHP program that I have written, I'll explain its purpose. Whether it be a real life program or just a program written to demonstrate my knowledge of the language.
09.05.05 — The Hangman game was written with PHP. The main purpose behind this program was to show some of my experience with using databases. The program also had to perform various error checking. For example, making sure the user entered valid information. (Originally created: 12.01.01)
09.28.01 — The opinion Web poll tracker was requested by the Web designer of The Advocate, which is MSU Moorhead's campus paper. The solution had to be easily maintained and have the capability to store the previous week's opinion poll results. The program uses a combination of HTML forms and Perl. The Perl program, once set up, should not need to be edited. The program is controlled by several HTML form fields passed into the program. Those form fields will be changed only when the poll question changes.
07.09.01 — The Craps game started out as a school project for my Web Programming class. This program originally only allowed you to bet on the general rules of Craps. (Click here to view the general rules) I thought this would be a good program to really get to know JavaScript and JavaScript classes because of all the different bets that can be made. |
